There has been a lot of noise in the news this week about NDIS funding reforms passing through parliament. It is the kind of news that can feel distant — political deals, budget figures, ministerial press releases — and yet for families who rely on allied health supports like OT, it lands very close to home.

At Care For Welfare, we are watching these changes carefully. What we know, based on what the NDIA has communicated, is that the reforms are intended to make the scheme more sustainable and consistent. What we also know — from the families and participants our therapist works with every day — is that uncertainty about funding creates real stress, and that stress often lands on the people who can least afford it.

Our therapist’s work does not change based on what is happening in Canberra. A child working on pencil grip still needs the same patient, consistent support. An adult building independence in daily routines still deserves a therapist who shows up, knows them, and is not starting from scratch every session. That is what a small practice with a small caseload can offer — continuity that does not shift with the political weather.

If you have questions about how current NDIS changes might affect your supports, your support coordinator or NDIS planner is the right person to speak with. General information only — not personal advice.

What has been the hardest part of navigating NDIS changes for your family?
